Norwegian brought home from Somaliland

The Norwegian citizen Sayd Jurde Hayd, who was sentenced to death in Somaliland, was released from prison at the weekend and is now back in Norway.
– We have worked for 3 years to get Hayd released. In these years, he has been told several times that the death sentence against him should be carried out, say his lawyers John Christian Elden and Farid Bouras at Elden Advokatfirma.

The Elden law firm writes that after intense negotiations with local authorities and clans, as well as consular assistance from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hayd was released just before the weekend.

In April 2020, Hayd was arrested and accused by the police in the breakaway Republic of Somaliland’s capital, Hargeisa, of murder. He denies the charges.
