Every once in a while you come across a nugget of information which is worth its weight in gold, pardon the pun.
Somaliland has made tremendous leaps and bounds over the years, whichever way you spin it, the country has had a trove of successes and near misses, along with a few terrible missteps. The warts have to be mentioned because no nation is perfect.
We, as a nation, pull each other along. It’s a science we have perfected. It is called consensus. This writer may not agree with everything this new administration of President Muse Bihi Abdi has effected since its inauguration, however, I will not leave my allegiance at the door. We all play for the same team.
As such, the information I would like to bring to the attention of the reader is available to one and all. It is in the public domain and can be easily accessed.
Here it is. The Government of the United States of America has put aside $60 Billion dollars to bolster its allies in the developing world. This money will be used to counter the growing and successful entreaties made by China, particularly in Africa.
My question, should we not ask for our share of what is a sizable pie?
Our case stands for itself, three presidential elections, a peaceful transfer of power from one administration to another, one person one vote, a bevy of parliamentary and local elections, and at the same time meeting all the conditions under the Montevideo Convention.
We are the best example of all the nations applying and meeting all the requirements. It is not unheard of delegations making their way to donor conferences to work things out. We have and will and this number ($60 Billion) will not come up in any conference, but it is there to be had, so why not Somaliland?
The Foreign Ministry brain trust can pursue this sizable pot in their official capacity, government to government and the sooner they can send a delegation the better.
Allaa Mahad Leh
Long Live Somaliland
