Somaliland Will Be an Independent Nation, Vows UK Lawmaker

Somaliland will be recognized as an independent nation, a United Kingdom lawmaker has vowed.

Gavin Williamson, a lawmaker in the UK’s House of Commons, made this vow during a ceremony held to commemorate Somaliland’s National Day.

Speaking at the event held on May 18, Williamson vowed not to rest on his laurels until Somaliland enjoys global recognition as an independent nation.

For years, Somaliland has insisted on its independence from Somalia.

It broke free from Somalia in the early 1990s during the Civil War.
