Somalia’s former Foreign Minister Abdisaed Muse Ali is accusing Turkey of carrying out a “massacre” after a reported drone strike near Garmaal in Puntland killed four Somali men.
Initial local reports described the dead as suspected pirates linked to the hijacking of the cargo vessel Lutuf.
But that account is now being challenged by residents, who say the four were innocent fishermen with no connection to piracy.
Puntland authorities have yet to publicly clarify who the men were, while Turkey has not acknowledged carrying out the strike or responded to the civilian-casualty accusations.
Ali accused Ankara of injecting “brutal aggression” into Somali politics and also blasted Puntland’s leadership for remaining
over the deaths.
