Hundreds of Somalis have taken to the streets in several cities across Somalia to protest the airstrike targeting General Mahad Abdirahman Aden, widely known as General Shub, the former Commander of the Somali Custodial Corps and a former member of Somalia’s Federal Parliament.
Demonstrators accused Turkey and Egypt of involvement in the strike and other military operations that they allege have resulted in civilian casualties. During the protests, some demonstrators burned the Turkish flag, while others trampled on the Egyptian flag as an expression of their opposition to the two countries’ perceived role in Somalia.
The demonstrations reflect growing public anger among participants over foreign military involvement and the civilian impact of ongoing security operations in Somalia.
