At least five people were killed, and several others were wounded during an attack by armed men on Somaliland military forces stationed in the Naso-Hablod Mountains in Hargeysa on Tuesday afternoon.

Lawmaker Yasin Omar Yare, a member of the Hargeisa local council, reported that the military forces came under attack from armed people claiming ownership over portions of land in the Naso-Hablod Mountains, located in the northeast of Hargeisa, where the army was positioned.

“A recent escalation in a land dispute has led to these casualties. The disputed land is of public interest and falls under the local government’s jurisdiction. Despite our efforts to peacefully evacuate the military personnel, the situation did not unfold as anticipated,” stated the MP.

As of Wednesday, residents have reported that the situation has returned to normalcy, with the military forces regaining control.
