The government of Somaliland and the people of Hargeisa celebrated a significant milestone today with the official launch of Taiwan Avenue — a modern roadway that symbolizes both infrastructure progress and deepening diplomatic ties between the Republic of Somaliland and Taiwan.
The newly inaugurated road connects Egal International Airport to central Hargeisa, significantly improving urban mobility and access for residents and visitors alike. Designed with safety and sustainability in mind, the upgraded road includes newly constructed sidewalks and a modern drainage system to mitigate flooding risks during the rainy seasons.
The project is a result of joint funding between the Government of Taiwan and the Hargeisa Local Government. Taiwan provided 70% of the construction cost for the first phase, underscoring its strong commitment to supporting Somaliland’s development.
The opening of Taiwan Avenue marks another step forward in the growing relationship between Taiwan and Somaliland — a partnership that continues to deliver tangible results on the ground.
