Israel’s ambassador to Somaliland, Michael Lotem, presented his credentials last week to Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi in a ceremony held at the Presidential Palace in Hargeisa. The Foreign Ministry stated that “the ceremony is another step in strengthening relations between the countries that recognized each other on December 26, 2025.” At the conclusion of the credentials presentation ceremony, a cornerstone was laid for the new Israeli embassy to be established in Hargeisa. Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar stated: “Israel is determined to advance and establish relations with Somaliland. The appointment of ambassadors in accordance with the agreement reached during the mutual recognition between the countries is another important layer in strengthening relations between us.”
