Addis Abeba – Members of Ethiopian Navy have been deployed to the eastern part of the country to help in preventing the damages of ongoing flooding following recent heavy rains.
More than 30 people were recently killed by floodings in the #Somali regional state alone.
According to Ethiopian National Defense Forces (#ENDF) the Ethiopian Navy accepted the request for the deployment of its members and deployed the forces some 1,250 kilometers away from the headquarters where they were welcomed by Ethiopian Disaster Risk Management Commission Commissioner, Amb. Shiferaw Teklemariam and Brigadier General Teshome Yimer, Commander of the Corps.
During the occasion, Ambassador Shiferau said that the Ethiopian Navy members will provide the necessary support to save lives in the areas that are affected by the ongoing flooding.
In his remarks about the welcome given to the team, Colonel Kebede Michael, Head of Naval Education and Training of the Ethiopian Navy, and the coordinator of the team, said that: “the general explanation given to us about the situation will allow us to clearly understand the conditions for doing our work and enable us to carry out the mission expected of us safely.” AS
