Somalia’s opposition alliance, the Somali Future Council (SFC), has rejected the election of Abdulkadir Mohammed Nur Jama as Speaker of Parliament, terming it fraudulent.

The manner in which the outgoing President manipulated this so-called election is a clear example of his blueprint for managing the upcoming Federal Parliament and Presidential elections.

He intends to seize control of the electoral process, block strong competitors, and predetermine the final outcomes.

The Somali Future Council reiterates that the electoral dispute in Somalia cannot be resolved through unilateral actions, abuse of power, and processes with predetermined results.

The only path to restoring constitutional legitimacy and political trust is an inclusive consensus agreement. This must serve as the foundation for an election that is mutually agreed upon, with a process and outcome that everyone can trust.

An expired mandate cannot generate a new mandate; and a stolen election cannot generate legitimacy
