Somaliland’s Minister of Information, Ali Marehan, on Sunday sharply rebuked Somalia’s Foreign Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, accusing him of envious resentment towards Somaliland’s progress in holding free and fair elections. This came in response to the Somali official’s recent admonition to European diplomats in Hargeisa, claiming that their recent comments during a visit to Hargeisa constituted a violation of Somalia’s sovereignty.

“He is condemning the very nations that have extended recognition to his administration, which exercises no control over any territory. These countries, however, are fully entitled to visit Somaliland and commend its advancements and progress without requiring his consent,” said Ali Marehan.
