Somaliland President Takes Global
Stage at World Governments Summit
Irro holds high-level meetings with USA, UK, Germany, Japan, Kenya, Senegal and Israel as Somaliland expands global diplomacy
Dubai / February 2026

Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Irro) has placed
Somaliland firmly on the global diplomatic stage during the 2026 World Governments Summit in Dubai, holding a series of high-level meetings with senior officials from the United States, Europe, Asia, and Africa.
President Irro arrived in the United Arab Emirates on February 2, leading a senior delegation to the summit, which brings together leaders from more than 130 countries. His participation alongside more than 35 heads of state under full diplomatic protocol has been widely viewed as a major diplomatic signal.
On the sidelines of the summit, the President held strategic discussions with representatives of the United States State Department, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Japan, focusing on governance cooperation, security dialogue, trade facilitation, and long-term investment opportunities.
African diplomatic engagements included meetings with delegations from Kenya and Senegal, where discussions centered on regional stability, trade corridors, and cooperation within the Horn of Africa and wider continental frameworks.
President Irro also met with an official Israeli trade delegation following Israel’s formal recognition of Somaliland in December 2025. Talks focused on technology transfer, agriculture, energy, and responsible mineral development.
Somaliland officials say the meetings reflect growing international confidence in Somaliland’s political stability, democratic institutions, and role as a reliable partner in a strategically important region..
