The Chinese Embassy in Mogadishu has strongly condemned statements made by a member of the U.S. Congress, which supported the relationship between Taiwan and Somaliland and attacked the cooperation between China and Africa.
A spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy stated that the Taiwan administration is specifically interfering in Somalia’s internal affairs by establishing connections with certain groups within the Somaliland administration to further its separatist agenda.
These actions, the spokesperson said, are causing significant harm to the unity and common interests of the Somali people, including those in Somaliland.
“China will work together with Somalia to safeguard national unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity,” the embassy spokesperson said.
The Chinese government highlighted that its cooperation with Africa is based on genuine friendship, mutual respect, and shared benefits.
This cooperation, China stated, has brought tangible benefits to the African people, with the aim of building a shared community between China and Africa.
The embassy added that any political agenda aiming to disrupt the relationship between China and Africa will not alter the strong unity and cooperation between the two sides.
This statement comes at a time when diplomatic tensions between the United States and China are escalating, especially concerning Taiwan and China’s influence in Africa.
