Yemeni authorities have deported Somaliland’s trade representative, Idris Aden Raage, after holding him for more than two months in detention in the southern port city of Aden, according to Yemeni sources and Somali media reports on Wednesday.
Raage was reportedly released from custody before being flown out of Aden International Airport aboard an Air Djibouti flight.
Security forces arrested Raage on June 13 after raiding the Somaliland trade office in Aden’s Khormaksar district, where the mission has operated since relocating from Sana’a.
Somaliland lawmaker Guled Mohamed Warsame said authorities confiscated equipment and other property from the trade office during Raage’s detention. He said the envoy was deported immediately after his release.
Neither Somaliland authorities nor the Yemeni government had issued an official statement on the case by Wednesday.
